Obituary—Valentina Haritonovna Lyakhu
March 8, 2016, at the age of 86, Valentina Haritonovna Lyakhu passed away.
Valentina Haritonovna was born on January 10, 1931. She lived for 86 years, never resting from her service to God and to people.
Her childhood and adolescence fell on hard times in the midst of the war, and took a serious toll on Valentina Haritonovna’s family, leaving her an orphan in the post-war years. She faced a great deal of grief and hardship throughout her life. But God, in His mercy, brought her into His church where she found a new family, new brothers, and sisters.
At the age of 21 she married Stepan Nikitovich Lyakhu. The young couple dedicated themselves to the service of the Lord.
Being the wife of a minister was not an easy job. Especially during that time, when believing in God and serving him ran a very high risk.
One by one their children were born, and they moved back and forth across Moldova, south to north and back again…
Only the Lord knows how she managed to feed and clothe everyone. At any time, day or night, her light was always on and her door was always open. There was always enough kindness in her big heart for everyone and she never stopped trying to help any way she could.
Her children remember how they would awake early in the morning, still in a sweet slumber, and could hear their father’s voice reading the Bible aloud to their mother and then praying together. And so became their daily routine.
“It’s hard, I’m tired…I do not know why I have lived so long,” she has said during recent years, “Maybe so that I can pray for all of them. In the morning, in the evening, when I wake up in the middle of the night, I pray to the Lord. I remember each one of them, and pray for them all by name—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren…”
Days filled with joy and anxiety came to an end for Valentina Haritonovna on March 8, 2016 when her heart stopped beating. In the words of the apostle, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.”
Sleep peacefully in the Lord until His soon Second Coming!
